The book The Muslim Community of Tbilisi, written by Nani Gelovani under the supervision of Giorgi Lobjanidze, was published by Tbilisi State University Publications. This book, which contains 632 pages, examines the different aspects of the life and activities of Muslims in Tbilisi (the capital of Georgia) in the years 1801-1917 and the writer uses numerous historical and scientific sources to get a clear image of the political, socio-economic and cultural aspects of the life of Muslims in Tbilisi. In this book, the legal and social position of religion, which is the main aspect of the institutionalization of religion, is examined from two angles: one is the examination of Russia's policy in relation to the South Caucasus and the various forms of civil and military management in relation to Muslim clerics of the region, and the other is the activities of Muslim community and Islamic institutions of Tbilisi. Statistical Muslim population, Persian Community of Tbilisi, Azerbaijani Community of Tbilisi, mosques of Tbilisi, Muslim cemetery of Tbilisi, Islamic holidays and the Muslim community of Tbilisi, the educational policy of the Russian Empire and the Muslim community of Tbilisi, the Shiite and Sunni Muslim schools of Tbilisi, the Shiite seminary of Tbilisi, the Sunni charity school of Tbilisi, the Azerbaijani department (Tatar) of the Transcaucasian Teachers' Seminary in Gori constitute other topics of this book. This book is based on more than two hundred archival documents, most of which have been scientifically examined for the first time. Giorgi Lobjanidze, under whose guidance this book was written, is associate professor at the Institute of Oriental Studies, Faculty of Humanities, Tbilisi State University, and expert in Islamic theology and translator of the Holy Quran into Georgian language.
